Speaking about the run, writer and actor Emmet Kirwan said ‘I’m so excited to be bringing Dublin Oldschool back to Dublin’s 3Olympia Theatre. The journey the show has had, from a 50 seat venue to 7 sell out runs in Project Arts centre, to Edinburgh and The National Theatre in London and now in the 3Olympia … the whole thing is still hard to grasp. It’s exciting that we get to bring a show about Dublin and dance music back to such an iconic venue for a home crowd.”

Ian Lloyd Anderson, actor Dublin Oldschool noted “For me, being back doing Dublin Oldschool to mark 10 years is very special. As an actor you’re constantly thinking about what is next and rarely do we take stock and reflect on what we have done. It’s always been something I’ve been immensely proud of. Definitive in terms of my own career. To see it go from 50 people in an audience to theatres around the world, to a film, to a big hometown crowd in Dublin to mark 10 years, is very cool. To have done all of that with two good mates. Even more special.”

Phillip McMahon, Director Of Dublin Oldschool, commented, “Dublin Oldschool is one of the great success stories of contemporary Irish theatre. Emmet Kirwan’s soulful, lyrical play speaks to the magic and community of Ireland’s dance music scene, while taking a stark look at family, class and addiction in Dublin City. Oldschool began as an underdog of a show, but quickly took on a life of its own, playing to sold out houses in Dublin, Edinburgh and London’s famed National Theatre, before going on to become a hit film, solidifying Emmet Kirwan and Ian Lloyd Anderson as two of Ireland’s brightest talents. Now celebrating the show’s ten year anniversary, I’m proud to be remounting this show with great collaborators and friends. Dublin Oldschool began in the corner of a cafe in Dublin, but grew into a cultural touchstone that celebrates friendship and the power of dancing together. We mark a decade of magic with this show at Dublin’s home of live entertainment, the 3Olympia Theatre, where so many amazing gigs have come before us. We’ll be raising the roof with Emmet Kirwan’s contemporary classic play.”

The Story:

A Decade in the Making:

Since its debut at Bewley’s Cafe Theatre in 2014, Dublin Oldschool has evolved into a cultural phenomenon.
