PodPod’s Irish Podcast Awards opens its entries for 2023
Second-annual Awards to take place in Dublin this November
Dublin, Ireland – 23rd March 2023 – Applications are now open for the second-annual Irish Podcast Awards taking place in November 2023, showcasing excellence within podcasts and creators based in Ireland.
This year, the Irish Podcast Awards is brought to you by PodPod, the UK’s leading podcast industry trade publication – under parent company Haymarket Media Group – and is a companion to the British Podcast Awards, which the Group acquired in June 2022. The BPAs will be taking place in London a few months prior to the IPAs on 28 September.
“The Irish podcast industry has built on Ireland’s rich tradition of storytelling, carrying it forward into the digital age,” said PodPod editor Adam Shepherd. “We’re delighted to continue celebrating this vibrant and evolving sector, and we can’t wait to hear the outstanding submissions from Ireland’s podcast community.”
Podcast award categories for this year’s event range from specific genres such as Best Arts & Culture, Best News & Current Affairs, and Best Climate, to categories for specific formats such as Best Daily, Interview and Branded Podcast, Best Network or Publisher, and an award for the Best Podcast in The Irish Language aimed at Gaelic podcasts.
This year’s awards ceremony will also honour an individual creator or team in the audio sector with the Rising Star Award. Other editor’s choice awards for special recognition include Podcast Champion, the Specialist Award, and the Spotlight Award, as well as the highest award of the night: Podcast of The Year. Podcast fans also have the choice to vote for their favourite podcast with the Listener’s Choice award.
To be eligible for entry, submissions must be related to podcasts with at least six full episodes published between 1 April 2022 and 30 June 2023. This is so listeners can take note of great Irish series rather than short-run podcasts or one-off projects.
Early Bird entries are now open, and the fees range depending on the company’s turnover: under €100k will be €45 + VAT per entry, between €100k and €250k will be €95 + VAT per entry, and over €250k will be €175 +VAT per entry. The deadline for Early Bird applications is 23 June, after which €100 will be added to the submission fees until the final deadline on 11 July.
Additionally, independent audio producers that identify as BIPOC, Queer and/or Trans can be eligible for financial support with their entry fees through the Podcasting Seriously Awards Fund, which supports more than 200 award submissions for independents annually. Industry professionals with at least three years of experience in podcasting working in any aspect – producing, hosting, editing, promoting, et cetera – can also nominate themselves or a colleague to be part of the judging panel for this year’s IPAs. Creators from diverse backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply. The judging will take place online from 1 to 16 August, and the shortlist will be announced shortly afterwards in September.
