DUBLIN, Ireland – The Oriel Gallery is delighted to announce the opening of a new exhibition titled “Pandora’s Box” by the internationally acclaimed artist Anthony Murphy. The exhibit opens at the Clare Street, Dublin, Gallery on November 9th, 2023.
Celebrating over a decade of partnership with The Oriel Gallery, Anthony Murphy’s journey as an artist has been nothing short of captivating. Born in the vibrant heart of Buenos Aires in 1956, his formative years took him from the energetic streets of London to the peaceful countryside of Suffolk. The lush landscapes of Ireland deeply influenced his twenties, and for the past 25 years, the scenic vistas of Southwest France have been his muse. The sanctuary he has created atop the French hills is reminiscent of an Ark, offering an immersive experience into his unique world.
Anthony’s artistry blooms in his studio, a space alive with memories and ongoing creations. From sketches of turf cutters and laundry girls to vivid landscapes, his works are a fusion of his Irish and French roots. But it’s his mastery over colour that sets him apart. With a background that sees him as Tom Brown from the 1970 BBC’s ‘Tom Brown‘s Schooldays’ and an Emmy Award to his name for Best Actor, Anthony’s artistry is not just limited to the canvas. The Emmy-winning actor’s free spirit was also evident in his daring feat of hand gliding over Blackhead, Co. Clare in 1978.
“Pandora’s Box” is an ode to Murphy’s unparalleled command over colour and form. With a style that’s distinctly Fauvist yet deeply personal, his paintings are a radiant celebration of light and shade.
The Oriel Gallery invites art enthusiasts, critics, and lovers of beauty to witness Anthony Murphy’s magical world through “Pandora’s Box”.
This exhibition is not just a display of art but a journey into the heart of a genius.
